First up is the lovely ladies from La Diosa – a company dedicated to making the most beautiful and original jewellery from semi-precious stones. Since launching their business only a matter of two years ago, Natasha Faith and Semhal Zemikael have achieved huge success. Not only have they won a number of awards, but their jewellery now sold in Harvey Nichols London and their pieces have been worn by the Prime Minister's wife, Sarah Brown, and international superstars Alicia Keys and Leona Lewis.   Both Semhal and I have always been very independent women and have always dreamed about running our own business and knew that working for someone else was always going to be temporary.

There is that small voice in every entrepreneurs mind that says "You can do better ..." and eventually shouts, "I will do this better!"

  • Once we came back from travelling, we approached The Prince's Trust with our ideas. They gave us a Business Development Manager who mentored us and helped prepare us for the world of enterprise. The Trust then gave us a small loan that provided us with enough capital to launch La Diosa.
  • TIP ALERT: We conducted a lot of market research before the launch, as we needed to be sure that we were aiming at the right demographic and that our product had a place in the market. Jewellery has a huge market, but it is also highly saturated, therefore a strong brand identity and value in a product are some of the most important factors to include in a business. I would also advise you to look at where the opportunities in your market lie and what you're customers will expect from your product or service.

  • The best business advice we received is to always stay inspired. This is so crucial as you can sometimes feel under pressure when you are running your own business, but if you can manage to stay inspired by reading, writing and travelling you feel more positive and creative. As long as you feel inspired it's difficult not to be motivated.
  • 'Think smaller...' This is hands down the worst advice you can give someone who is aiming for success ! I believe that a true entrepreneur is constantly aiming for the true height s of success and in order to achieve this you have to think BIG – but be realistic and take calculated risks.
  • My advice to other budding entrepreneurs is to be passionate about your business and learn the art of delegation as it is impossible to do everything on your own! Make sure you don't forget to give back when you can and always surround yourself with like-minded people.
