Morgan Stanley is warning retailers in Australia that internet sites which have used web design, will take as much as 20 per cent of the industry in years to come.
National newspaper The Australian reports the financial services company has told the retail sector physical shops are very much under threat from e-commerce.
Analyst for Morgan Stanley, Thomas Kierath thinks those who don’t
create a website will get left behind.
He says: "We estimate that if by 2015 Australian online retail penetration reaches the current US level, then internet retailing could take 22 per cent of the growth in Australian retail sales."
"If more of the Australian online spend shifts offshore, the amount of growth left available to Australian retailers would reduce further."
